MEMBERS of LHUK met to discuss the main issues faced by the industry and have identified driver shortages as one of the main problems faced by logistic businesses in the region.
This national problem, is affecting businesses operating out of the Sheffield City Region, and work is now being planned to address this.

Doncaster Council, Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and Doncaster Sheffield Airport have taken the next step in exploring the potential of connecting the airport to the East Coast Mainline to provide a station.
A study has been commissioned to determine the feasibility and strategic business case for a potential rail link and will be awarded through a competitive bidding process. The study is hoped to be completed by the end of the year.

A Rotherham based logistics group has become the latest business to join Logistics Hub UK (LHUK), a membership organisation working with companies from across the Sheffield City Region to develop the region as one of the UK’s leading logistics, warehousing and distribution sites.
Logistics and Distribution Group, based in Thurnscoe, is a trio of companies covering the delivery of sector specific training to companies ranging from owner operators to multinational logistics companies, driver recruitment, warehousing and distribution.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is celebrating winning a new cargo contract, bringing flowers and vegetables to the UK for some of the country’s largest retailers.
The airport has secured a deal with Network Airline Management who begin a weekly MD11 service from Nairobi to Yorkshire this week. It will be the airport’s first scheduled flight handling perishable goods opening up a major new market.

A far-reaching vision for transport in the Sheffield City Region (SCR) has been published today, aiming to grow high-value jobs and prosperity by radically improving transport and connectivity.
The SCR’s ‘Transport Prospectus’ outlines the region’s intention to seize the greatest possible benefits from national programmes such as HS2 and investment by Transport for the North (TfN). And it has been sent direct to Government to make sure Ministers, following the recent General Election, are well aware of the SCR’s priorities.

Peel Land and Property have recently completed a joint land sale at Aero Centre Yorkshire (ACY) to Doncaster-based Benell Ltd and Walker & Son of Tuxford.
The site, which sits within Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s enterprise zone, will be developed into a 44,000 sq ft small unit scheme arranged over three terraces worth £4.5m. It will offer high quality business units from 3,000 sq ft up to 20,000 sq ft in size.
